Common Cold

From Nexus Community

The Common Cold, often referred to as a cold, is an infectious disease in DayZ Standalone.

Virulence[edit]

Invasiveness High How quickly a disease grows and spreads in an infected host.
Infectiousness Extremely High The ease at which a disease can spread from one Survivor to another.
Resistance None A disease's resistance to antibiotics.
Potency Low A disease's resistance and ability to fight the host's immune system.

Cause[edit]

Survivors in DayZ Standalone can become infected with one of several virus strains that cause the Common Cold in several ways. Contact or close proximity with other Survivors that are infected with the virus. Prolonged exposure to the elements, especially cold.

It is especially common during winter seasons in servers due to both rain and cold weather working together to spread the disease. It is much less common in summer due to warmer weather.

Symptoms[edit]

Sneezing is the most common symptom of the Common Cold. Sneezing can spread the infection to other nearby Survivors. However, Coughing can also spread the disease. Even though these are 2 different symptoms, there is no difference between the two symptoms in the sense of how effectively they spread the Common Cold.

It doesn't seem to be a particularly debilitating disease like cholera or food poisoning, but the coughing and sneezing of the survivors can alert other survivors to their position, making this disease relatively risky when entering a city that happens to be having high traffic.

Prevention[edit]

Avoiding survivors infected with the Common Cold is recommended.

Staying warm and protected from exposure to the elements as well as remaining well fed and hydrated will also assist in prevention.

If your character is cold, it is recommended to take Multivitamin Pills as a preventive treatment against Common Colds.

Treatment[edit]

In the event of infection, Tetracycline Pills will help a survivor fight off the virus. A survivor can also fight off the infection naturally, but this process will take longer. Avoid contact with other survivors.
